Vintage rally returns to Mountbellew

AN exhibition of 1940s and ‘50s Porsche tractors and cars will be one of the main attractions at this year’s Mountbellew Vintage Rally on Sunday, July 28.

The rally returns this year, after rainfall and wet underfoot conditions led to its cancellation in 2023. This year’s event will be held on 60 acres on the grounds of Mountbellew Mart and on land provided by local landowners.

The first-time exhibition of the Italian-made Porsche tractors and cars is just one of several unique features planned for the rally. A new lawnmower race will take place, while vintage Lanz Bulldog tractors, made in Germany, will also be in Mountbellew.

Steam engines will be on show on Sunday week. A hay-making project will detail the building of the ‘sheep cock’ of hay present on farms across Galway 50 years ago and more.
