Tuam creches’ artist collaboration scoops a prestigious education award

AN UNIQUE collaboration between two Tuam creche facilities has been recognised with a prestigious education award, following a link up with Arts Council Artist in Residence at Atlantic Technological University, Galway.

Early childhood educators based at Tuam Community Childcare Centre and Wiz Kidz Preschool have joined forces on the SCEALTA Our Bus Our Journey project, that has won the Arts in Education Documentation Portal Award.

Louise O’Shaughnessy, manager of the Community Childcare Centre, and Paula O’Reilly, educator with Wiz Kidz, are both in their third year of the BA Early Childhood Education and Care at ATU Galway.

Along with Sandra Mills, an educator at the Childcare Centre who is also studying the same degree course in ATU, they have developed the project in conjunction with Artists in Residence on the BA programme, Cliodhna Noonan, who is an early years arts creator, producer, and programmer for creative arts events.

Dr Rita Melia, Lecturer in Early Childhood Education and Care at ATU, said the award was worthy recognition of the three Tuam students, but also a celebration of the wonderful experiences the children in these two early years settings enjoyed through the collaboration with the Arts Council Artist in Residence programme…
