Saw Doctors feel privileged so many want to hear them again
ANYTIME Leo Moran walks out his front door, someone rolls down the car window at the roundabout — ‘Any tickets?’
He gives a simple answer, one that hasn’t changed since The Saw Doctors’ two Tuam Big Top gigs sold out in minutes earlier this year. “There just aren’t any. There’s nothing else. We’d love to bring everyone in, but it’s not possible,” Leo remarks.
It’s over 30 years since thousands thronged the Big Top in Tuam Stadium for the iconic West Awake Festival. Many of those faces will be back to see The Saw Doctors hometown gigs this weekend, but this time, their own children, even grandchildren, are likely to be there too.
Time might not have stood still since that magical day and night in 1991, but the words and music of the Tuam band have proven to be timeless, the lyrics as relevant now to younger generations and the feel-good factor of their melodies as infectious as ever…
