Local Property Tax to be increased

15 per cent hike on the way

PLANS to increase the Local Property Tax throughout County Galway by 15 per cent are expected to be passed at a meeting of the plenary council later this month.

Efforts to increase the rate last year failed and now the ruling Fine Gael-Independent coalition plan to follow the instruction of government ministers who have made additional exchequer funding to Galway Co Council dependent on an LPT increase.

Independent Cllr James Charity said he was completely opposed to the increase.
