BELCLARE’S Shane McHugh is the sole Galway escort for this year’s Rose of Tralee.

Clare Ann Irwin from Galway city is the Galway Rose, and there are 33 escorts to match each of the lovely 33 Roses.

The Rose of Tralee returns to a new venue in MTU’s Kerry Sports Academy, and is running from August 19 to 23. The affable Kerry native and Peterswell dweller Daithí Ó Sé will have the 33 Roses on stage across Monday (August 22) and Tuesday (August 23) nights.

Shane McHugh doesn’t know yet who he will be accompanying around the environs of Tralee in a few weeks’ time, but it is something he is hugely excited for.

“As escorts, we were promised a unique, exciting and unforgettable experience and, so far, the festival has more than delivered on that promise,” said Shane, son to Joe and Patricia McHugh …
