Fresh attempt to give major facelift to closed rural pub
New planning application to be lodged
BUSINESSMAN Declan Ganley is making a fresh attempt at transforming The Dereen Inn near Abbeyknockmoy into a modern pub and restaurant.
In 2016 Mr Ganley became a landlord when he purchased the well-known rural pub on the N63, which is close to his home at Moyne Park.
The following year he lodged an extensive planning application aimed at giving the property a major facelift in a bid to turn it into a gastropub that would boost local employment and be a welcome tourist pitstop.
However, the application was refused planning permission by Galway County Council on grounds that it would interfere with the safety and free flow of traffic on the 100kph N63.
