Private operators struggle with spiralling fuel costs
Tuam Herald price survey finds huge disparity at fuel pumps
THOUGH most welcomed the news that hauliers were to receive a weekly subsidy by the Government for the next eight weeks to tackle rising fuel costs, some local businesses, who are feeling the effects of the price hikes, are calling for further aid to help them survive.
Late last week, Government ministers agreed that each vehicle that requires a road haulage licence would be eligible for €100 per week.
However, Williamstown councillor Declan Geraghty felt that more must be done to support local business who fall outside this new scheme.
“It’s the people that run their own vehicles, that don’t require a haulage licence, we have been forgotten about,” began Cllr Geraghty, owner of DG Roofing, which manufactures roof cladding and accessories.
