Singer Brendan on voyage back home
TUAM singer-songwriter and former X-Factor star Brendan Murray is on his way back to Ireland having been in quarantine on a cruise ship that was anchored in the Gulf Mexico for nearly two weeks.
The 23-year-old was part of the entertainment team on the luxurious liner that was based around Mexico. However, the worsening of the coronavirus pandemic means he is anxious to get back to Tuam and be reunited with his mum and dad, Frank and Julianne, whom he hasn’t seen for six months. Speaking to The Tuam Herald before he left the cruise ship Brendan said while there weren’t any cases of coronavirus on the ship or anyone taken ill, they had taken the 14 days in quarantine as a precaution when the passengers left.
“I know it’s a lot tougher now to travel, so fingers crossed I’ll get there.” Brendan had been on the ship since the end of September.
The Irish Foreign Ministry this week warned that in America, the spread of Covid19 is becoming more serious each day and is putting the population at increasing risk and advised those on short term visas to return to Ireland.
Although he will have spent 14 days in quarantine on the cruise ship, he won’t get to see his family straight away when he does make it back. He will have to travel through several airports and doesn’t want to put his parents at risk.
“I am worried that I might pass something on to mum or dad so I’m going to stay in isolation for two weeks in a friend’s place to be safe.”
