Aldi still committed to Tuam supermarket plan
SUPERMARKET chain Aldi has hit out at the independent grocers’ group RGDATA for lodging an appeal against its plans to build its first store in Tuam.
Galway County Council's grant of planning permission for the new supermarket on part of the Glynn’s Hardware site on the Ballygaddy Road was appealed to An Bord Pleanala at the end of last month and will take several months to be decided on.
Aldi has told The Tuam Herald that it is still committed to opening a new store in Tuam by 2022 and that it has purchased part of the Glynn’s site to build the 1,315sqm supermarket.
A spokesperson for Aldi said it was disappointed by the appeal.
