Tuam are out of rugby Junior Cup
IN SPORTING layman’s terms, if a team continuously looks to ‘hammer the hammer’, more often than not, their opposition is going to give way at some juncture.
For all Tuam’s possession and territory in the second half, Connemara’s defence was akin to the proverbial brick wall. Coupled with a five-minute first half spell that harvested a penalty, two tries and 15 points, these were the deciding factors in getting them into the Connacht Junior Cup final.
There, on March 24 in the Sportsground, Connemara will face Creggs, a meeting of number one and two in the Junior 1A League standings.
Whether it was via the N17 or the M17/18, the Connemara All Blacks arrived at Garraun Park in Tuam last Sunday as favourites. Yet, while they are a league above Tuam, what many in attendance might not have been aware of prior to kick-off, was that Tuam, top of Junior 1B with 12 wins from 12, came to the party as the only unbeaten team left this season in the Junior Cup and League.
