Murphy and McDonagh see Tuam through in feisty clash

HAVING lost agonisingly at the quarter-final stage this time last year on their home turf, Tuam’s defensive resolve proved decisive in very testing conditions on Sunday afternoon when they defeated Ballina in a full-blooded encounter at Garraun Park.
Ian Murphy’s excellent score in the left corner just before half-time proved to be the only try of a stop-start contest riddled with handling errors, but Tuam were also importantly handed a numerical advantage before Killian McDonagh could attempt the conversion as Ballina’s Alex Quinn was red-carded for a punch, with Tuam’s Alan Finnerty receiving a yellow at the same time.
