Sadness at death of Mark Killilea
FORMER Fianna Fáil TD, Senator and MEP Mark Killilea has died.
The 79-year-old was one of the leading figures in politics in Co Galway from the late 1960s.
He retired from political life at the 1999 European Parliament election having represented Connacht-Ulster since 1987, a role he thoroughly enjoyed. His loyalty to Fianna Fáil never faltered. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Mark Snr, who was a founder member of the Fianna Fáil party and TD until 1961.
Mark Killilea is survived by his wife Anne and their seven children, including Galway Co Cllr Donagh Killilea.
The family was devastated in 2009 when the couple’s son, Mark junior, died in a car accident.
