Ultra runner Fiona leaves marathon men in the shade
By David Connors
FOR most people, the 26.2 miles that make up a marathon are an unassailable task and a feat far beyond them, but for ultra-runner athletes like Tuam native Fiona Lynch these long distance runs are a walk in the park.
Originally from Parkmore Terrace, Fiona (43) moved to England 18 years ago for work and now currently resides in Bury, a town just outside Manchester, with her husband Pete and their three children Ewan (13), Niamh (10) and Aoife (5).
Having been sporty since her youth, she took up jogging in her mid-twenties but at the time wasn’t partaking in any form of competition and just looked at it as a means of keeping fit and active.
It was after the birth of her second child, Niamh, that she decided to take on the challenge of running a half marathon and from there she caught the running bug.
