Drink spurring teenage disco attacks

A RISE in assaults on young people as they travel to teenage discos around the county has prompted calls for an increased Garda presence at pick up points to deter such violence.

The matter was discussed at this week’s meeting of the Co Galway Joint Policing Committee, where Fianna Fail TD Ann Rabbitte highlighted an increase in attacks on young boys in particular.

Cllr Malachy Noone, who is also a bus driver, recounted his experience of transporting young people to social events throughout the county and said the situation was "frightening".
