New Hidden Heart strategy may land Tuam in tourism limbo
THE launch of Fáilte Ireland’s latest initiative, Hidden Heartland, which is designed to do for the midlands what the Wild Atlantic Way achieved for the West coast and Ancient East for the east of the country has received a warm welcome from tourism interests in areas struggling to compete with more high-profile locations such as Connemara and West Clare.
However, the reaction has been somewhat more muted in East Galway which is included with the midlands for the purpose of promotion as no clear maps have been issued by Fáilte Ireland as yet. Most of East Galway from Portumna to Glenamaddy is included but it is proving difficult to ascertain where communities such as Athenry, Dunmore and even Tuam lie.
