Peter has new heights to climb

MOUNT EVEREST, the Andes and now the Ama Dablam — these are just some of the world’s highest peaks that Killererin mountaineer Peter O’Connell has conquered so far.
Ama Dablam was his third expedition to the Himalayas and this time his goal was to reach the peak of what he describes as “the most beautiful mountain in the world”.
Back in 2013, Peter became the first Galway man to scale Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
What started as a hobby has quickly turned into an obsession for the 35-year-old construction company owner.
“I realised I was good at endurance and I could perform well in high altitude mountaineering. So, I focused on it. It’s a great place to be for clear headspace and everyone should give it a go, you don’t know what you’re missing.
