Fitzgerald fire still burning
By David Connors
Kieran Fitzgerald has seen many teammates and foes come and go yet the towering full-back remains, and on St Patrick’s Day will be making a bid for his third All-Ireland medal and a second with his club.
Speaking to Herald Sport, Fitzgerald admits his passion for the game burns as bright as ever and acknowledges how lucky he is to still be competing for All-Ireland titles in the twilight of his career.
But what would it mean to the stalwart to come away victorious in this encounter?
“You’re up there with friends and see families there and maybe people who haven’t been in Croke Park, people who maybe didn’t get tickets for the big days. You’re representing them. You feel a sense of responsibility to give them something to shout about.
“For us to get over the line the next day, which will be very difficult, would be unbelievable. When you see the joy that it brings them and my own family and my own village, it’s incredible.”
