Sheridan: Demands on players ‘absolutely horrendous’

NUI GALWAY captain Damien Comer has hit out at the GAA's clashing fixtures which resulted in colleague Kieran Molloy playing two games in two different counties in just over two hours.
Molloy raced from Tullamore to north Dublin on Saturday afternoon, swapping All-Ireland club semi-final duty with Corofin for the Sigerson Cup decider.
Corofin colleague Liam Silke was in the same boat, though as a UCD player, and was told beforehand by UCD manager John Divilly to focus on the club game only.
"Look, it should never have come down to that but it did and fair play to Kieran," said Comer. "Fair play to Corofin too for getting the win. I'm delighted to see them getting through. Hopefully they can win another All-Ireland like they did a couple of years ago. Kieran's an honest individual and a great player. It was great to have him and to see what he did was huge for the rest of us."
Molloy's best efforts ultimately came to nought though as UCD prevailed and manager Maurice Sheridan was fuming that he didn't have his key defender for the duration.
At the very least, former Mayo star Sheridan felt that the GAA could have pushed back the Sigerson final by a couple of hours, or brought forward the club game, to accommodate Molloy.
