Greenway campaigners urge Canney to back plans as rail investment set to vanish
TUAM’S Greenway campaigners are calling on local TD Sean Canney to follow through on a pledge to support the development, following reports that there is no government support for the extension of the Western Rail Corridor.
The government’s National Planning Framework that will set out the country’s planning, infrastructure and spatial strategies up until 2040 is due to be published on Friday.
The document will go alongside a ten-year capital investment plan, which it is understood does not include funding for the Western Rail Corridor extension.
Cllr Shaun Cunniffe said Deputy Canney had given an explicit assurance to members of the Greenway Committee that if the railway was not included in the government’s spending plan he would drop his opposition to the greenway development.
