Victory 'not going to define our season' - Galway camp
By Alan Dooley
IT REALLY turned into a week to remember for Damien Comer. Now in his fifth season with the Galway senior football panel, the 24-year-old was appointed the side’s captain ahead of their National League opener with Tyrone, and he marked the occasion with a typically robust performance.
Fans were still filing into Tuam Stadium when Comer put the head down and rifled to the net in the game’s opening attack as Galway got off to an absolute flyer. The Annaghdown native appeared to revel in the new leadership role, but knows the season is only in its’ infancy.
“As I said to the boys during the week, I was honoured to be given the captaincy of the team,” Comer said.
“It doesn’t change anything in that we’ll be looking for leaders in every part of the team. Everyone stood up today, but it is game one of seven and it’s not going to define our season.
