Sylane’s Croke Park dream extinguished by St Mogue’s

At Parnell Park

THE final scoreline was certainly harsh on Sylane’s brave effort to become Galway’s first ever finalist in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Club Championship, but there could be no denying that the better side advanced on Saturday afternoon as Wexford champions Fethard St Mogue's put in a scintillating all-round display to see off Walter Burke’s side.

On a rain-sodden Parnell Park pitch that only just passed a late pitch inspection, with puddles clearly evident in some parts, the Wexford side pulled away in the last ten minutes just when it looked as though Sylane were about to put some real pressure on, having cut the deficit back to four thanks to two excellent Oran Martin points in quick succession.
The floodlights were finally lighting up a murky evening as the final quarter began and the vocal, colourful band of Sylane supporters were roaring their approval as their team powered back into the contest. It seemed as though, with plenty of time to play, that the Leinster champions were beginning to feel the heat but alas, any thoughts of a comeback were soon extinguished.
