Kilconly retain senior status
DAVID Glynn was the hero for Kilconly as his goal in the 63rd minute ensured that the North Galway side retained their Senior Championship status for at least another year.
It looked as if Frank Doherty’s side were on the brink of relegation when, having been allowed to claw their way back from a six-point deficit, Micheál Breathnach hit 1-1 in injury-time to take the lead for the first time since the third minute.
Kilconly, however, deserve huge praise for not panicking when all seemed lost. Many teams would have crumbled when hit with such a blow but Kilconly simply went back to the possession-based football that had served them so well earlier in the contest.
The game’s decisive score came as Kilconly moved the ball up the right-wing before Padraig Moran did well to keep Conor Marsden’s pass alive. Close to the end-line, Moran had the wherewithal to look up and spot the unmarked David Glynn, who slapped the ball into the net.
