Take out cars to boost footfall in Tuam
ONE of Tuam's main town centre streets could be made a car-free zone and opened up for better use by shoppers.
The proposal to pedestrianise some streets in Tuam could be revisited ahead of the drafting of a new town plan.
The idea was mooted more than a decade ago but has now been revived in a submission by local independent councillor Shaun Cunniffe.
Cllr Cunniffe fears that without proper planning and clear objectives, the new bypass and motorway may have a negative impact on town centre trading.
The possibility of pedestrianising one or more streets in Tuam should be investigated as a way of encouraging more shoppers to spend time in the town, he feels.
