Corofin survive semi-final scare

THE Connacht Senior Club Championship is a competition that just keeps on delivering and Sunday's semi-final meeting between Corofin and challengers St Brigid's of Roscommon was another to add to its’ lengthy list of memorable winter matches.

The Galway champions prevailed, but only just in many respects, as they survived a final quarter onslaught in normal time from the Kiltoom and Cam-based club, before outlasting their opponents in extra-time with All-Star hurler Daithí Burke coming off the bench to net the match-winning goal in the second period.

"We were pushed to the edge of our collar," admitted Kevin O'Brien afterwards. "Absolutely delighted to get through. St Brigid’s asked a lot of questions of us, but credit to our lads. Every time the questions were asked they came back and delivered, particularly in that second half. You know, it was point for point all the way through.
"To be honest St Brigid’s missed a few frees at crucial stages which kept us in the game. Our lads always seemed to come back and get a score and credit to them for that."
