Second half dominance sets Athenry on road to playoff berth

A BLITZKRIEG of a second half performance blasted Athenry past Ahascagh-Fohenagh, and has given them a chance of securing a place in the preliminary quarter-finals of the Senior Hurling Championship at their opponent’s expense.

To obtain that caveat, Athenry will have to keep their sharp-shooting spree ticking over against Clarinbridge on Sunday, where the home town comforts of Kenny Park will be available to them. The 3-11 Athenry hit Ahascragh-Fohenagh for in the second half allowed them to stroll to a 20-point victory and third spot in Group 2 of Senior B.
They pulled away from Ahascragh-Fohenagh with increasing ease the longer the half progressed, though having only been promoted from intermediate in 2016, Ahascragh-Fohenagh will be pleased in the knowledge that although their season is now over, they will still be a senior club next year.
