Club football and hurling championships start to hot up

TUAM STADIUM has been confirmed as the venue next Sunday week (September 24) for a Galway Senior Football Championship semi-final double-header involving ties between Corofin and Annaghdown, and Mountbellew-Moylough and Monivea-Abbey. The winners will meet in a County final that has been pencilled in for Sunday, October 15.

Corofin, Annaghdown and Mountbellew-Moylough all ran up double-digit wins to advance to the last four, while the season's surprise package and last year's intermediate champions Monivea-Abbey pulled off the result of the weekend, overcoming Tuam Stars in a thrilling finale in Corofin.
Reigning champions Corofin get the better of Moycullen for the second time in this year's championship. It was a case of deja vu for Paul Clancy's side as they were well in touch until early in the second half at which point Kevin O'Brien's charges turned on the afterburners with Ian Burke and Michael Farragher both netting twice in a convincing 4-13 to 2-8 victory.
An early Conor Moloney goal set Annaghdown on the road to a convincing win over Naomh Anna Leitir Móir, a match in which Frankie Burke was the star turn, hitting 2-6 in a 3-13 to 0-10 victory.
Mountbellew-Moylough may have stuttered in the early rounds of this year's championship but have found their groove of late and piled on the scores against a desperately disappointing St James' side that were trounced by 3-20 to 0-10.
Match of the weekend came in Corofin on Saturday evening where Monivea-Abbey and Tuam Stars were deadlocked and appeared destined for a replay until James Mannion pounced for the game-breaking goal and Stephen Walsh followed it with another as Barry Downey's side advanced to the semi-finals.
