Cash and computers stolen in school raids
GARDAI are appealing for information after a number of schools were targeted in burglaries over the weekend.
Kilglass National School near Ahascragh was broken into on Sunday night and a quantity of cash was stolen. A number of laptops and two iPads were also taken in the raid.
Kiltormer National School was also targeted over the weekend, although nothing was stolen during the attack in which the school was broken into and ransacked.
Last Thursday evening, a quantity of cash was taken during a break in at Merlin Community School in Doughiska where a window was smashed as the burglars gained entry.
Gardaí in Mountbellew, Ballinasloe and Galway city are investigating the incidents and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
“These schools have been targeted as the school year commences and it is upsetting for staff, students and parents alike,” said Garda Maria Freeley.
“Gardaí want to remind school staff never to keep money on the school premises and not to leave electrical or other valuable where they can be easily accessed.”
