Major expansion of Mountbellew Garden Centre
YVONNE and John Miland and their workforce are this week putting in place the finishing touches in preparation for the grand opening of Milands Garden Centre's new premises on Saturday, July 29.
The couple first opened a garden centre in 1993, when they rented a premises across from the road from where they are now. In 1996, they moved into their soon-to-be old building.
Work on the new building on the N63 road just outside Mountbellew began last November. The foundations were laid by Christmas, and the first blocks in the first week of January. Local man Paul Collevy of P & F Construction was the main man behind the build.
“There's been a few 14-hour days in the past couple of months trying to get everything done in time for the opening,†said John Miland. “With the new building completed, we've now over 10,000 square meters under cover to store our products including the old building and the covered areas out the back.â€
Proceedings on Saturday get underway at 12.30pm with the official unveiling. Throughout the afternoon from then on there will be plenty to keep both adults and children entertained.
Milands Garden Centre employs ten people both full and part-time, with John and Yvonne's children Aisling and Sean both working with them. They have thousands of different plants and flowers in store, some of which they get from places like Italy and the Netherlands, but most are Irish grown.
