Boil water notice lifted for Kilkerrin and Moylough areas
SOME 1,500 residents in the Kilkerrin-Moylough and surrounding areas can now drink their tap water again with the lifting of a boil water notice that had been in place for the past week.
The notice has been lifted by Irish Water and Galway County Council following advice from the HSE.
Just over a week ago (Wednesday, June 28) the boil water notice was put in place for those connected to the Kilkerrin-Moylough Water Supply Scheme as well as group water schemes in Lecarrow/Cooloo, Elmhill, Mullaghmore, Shankill and Fartown.
Persistent heavy rainfall over a number of days a deterioration in the raw water source. As a result the plant was unable to produce fully compliant water.
Rigorous sampling and monitoring was carried out on the raw water source and following consultation with the HSE the boil water notice has been lifted as the water supply is again compliant with drinking water regulations.
Irish Water say that customers can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.
