Justice Media Award honour for Tuam Herald
NEWS Editor with The Tuam Herald Tony Galvin has been honoured at this year's Justice Media Awards hosted by the Law Society of Ireland.
Tony was presented with one of three Merit Certificates awarded in the Regional Newspaper category at a ceremony in the Presidents' Hall at Blackhall Place. This latest accolade is one of numerous Justice Media awards Tony has won throughout his career at The Tuam Herald. The awards are Ireland's longest continuously-running media awards.
Tony's opinion article, The Best Judges are Human, written following the retirement of District Court Judge Geoffrey Browne, was described by the judging panel as a unique and welcome glance into the workings of the legal system at a local level.
“Writing with humour and experience about the cases heard by Judge Geoffrey Browne on the day of his retirement, this reporter displays a very fine command of his craft and brings humanity to the proceedings, without diminishing their seriousness. This piece is both a court report and a warm tribute to the retiring judge, and very worthy of recognition,†remarked the judges at the awards ceremony.
