Tribute to Lavally's Geogo aims to raise up to €30,000

A LAVALLY family is hoping to raise up to €30,000 this weekend when they host a fundraising night in aid of two local charities close to their hearts.
The late Kevin Geoghegan, 45, or 'Geogo’ as he was known to his friends and family, passed away last November after a four-year battle with bowel cancer. His widow Edelle O’Connor has organised a night in his memory at Geoghegan’s bar in Tuam on Sunday evening.

Organised in conjunction with Kevin’s wide circle of family and friends, the night seeks to raise funds for both Galway Hospice and Tuam Cancer Care. Kevin himself suggested a fundraiser when he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013.

Martin Geoghegan is hosting the event at his bar and nightclub and said it would be a wonderful way to celebrate Kevin’s life, while supporting two worthy charities.
“He never gave up in his long battle with illness and between the hospitals in Galway and Dublin and his time in the hospice, he made such an impression on everyone he met,” he said.
“He lived for his two children, Dylan who is 19 and Sadhbh, 4, who was only six months old when he first got sick.

“We had originally hoped to hold the event in November but Kevin passed away so we then decided to hold it as close to his birthday as possible. He would have been 46 on April 30,” added Edelle.
“Kevin’s goal was to raise €5,000 which could pay for five medical pumps in the hospice but the donations made at his funeral surpassed that so anything we raise on Sunday will be a bonus.

• Tickets for the fundraiser are priced €10 and can be purchased at all Tuam pubs, from any member of the Geoghegan family, H&M Stores, Clonberne; Quinn’s, Bishop Street, Tuam; Go Bananas, Tuam; and Elite Oil filling stations at Ballygaddy Road and Dublin Road, Tuam.
