Galway and Tipperary set for league final showdown

ONCE Galway’s potential route to the Allianz National League final became clear three weeks ago, a repeat of last year’s heart-stopping All-Ireland semi-final with Tipperary appeared the most likely scenario should Galway make it that far, and after both sides had little trouble in overcoming their semi-final opponents at the weekend, an intriguing battle now takes shape.
Tipperary have now undoubtedly taken on the mantle held for so long by Kilkenny as the country’s standard bearers, and the manner in which they eventually swept past a resurgent Wexford side showcased the strength in all areas of the field that Michael Ryan now has at his disposal.
When Wexford came with a fiery charge, Tipperary doused the flames emphatically, hitting 3-4 in the space of nine minutes as John and Noel McGrath dazzled, with John “Bubbles” O’Dwyer and Michael Breen making the anticipated impact off the bench.
