Home probe will include search for missing mothers

THE possibility that four mothers are buried on the site of the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home was raised with Local Government Minister Simon Coveney when he visited the area on Friday.
Research conducted by local historian Catherine Corless has found that nine women died in the home during the decades it was run by the Bon Secours sisters.
Through extensive cross checks the burial sites of five of the mothers have been ascertained but despite detailed record checking, four remain unaccounted for.
Catherine Corless raised the issue with Minister Coveney and Minister for Children Katherine Zappone, ahead of a private meeting between the ministers and survivors of the home and relatives.
