Commuter chaos
COMMUTERS to Galway are so frustrated by congestion and tailbacks that some have considered quitting their jobs.
Tailbacks to Galway city as far as Carnmore Cross led to traffic chaos for commuters trying to get to thecity this week, as a decision to change traffic light sequencing backfired badly.
Efforts to alleviate congestion at the junction of Parkmore with the Monivea Road, by changing the sequencing of traffic lights at Briarhill, led to motorists facing up to two hours’ journey time from parts of the county in to the city centre on Monday morning.
The matter caused lengthy debate at a county council meeting where the Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Connolly criticising the “ridiculous commute” he had encountered.
Cllr Mary Hoade said she was inundated with calls from people despairing of the situation and gave an example of one woman considering giving up her job because of the delays in getting to and from her place of work.
