Lanterns to be released in memory of Tuam's Mothers and Babies
HUNDREDS of lanterns will be released in memory of the children who died at the Tuam Mother and Baby Home in a special ceremony taking place at the site this week.
The event has been organised by a woman who used to play in the old building as a child, and others from the area, who they say are “heartbroken” at the confirmation that the remains of babies and young children are located at what was known as the Children’s Graveyard.
Colette McHugh from Athenry Road told The Tuam Herald that she and a number of friends felt they had to do something.
The event is called 'Sun Down ... Lanterns Up’ and will take place at the site, this Thursday evening at 7pm.
