Ecstasy worth €50,000 destined for Galway's Rag Week

SOME 4,000 Ecstasy tablets worth €50,000 have been seized in Galway. The drugs are thought to have been to sell during Galway's Rag Week.

The seizure was the result of ongoing joint investigations targeting drug trafficking in the Galway area.

The joint intelligence led operation was conducted by Revenue’s Customs Drugs Law Enforcement and the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, supported by officers from the Galway Regional drugs unit.

This investigation resulted in the identification and interception of a number of consignments of ecstasy tablets. A subsequent search today (Friday, February 10) has resulted in the seizure of approximately 4,000 Ecstasy tablets and a small quantity Herbal Cannabis.

Two Irish male suspects in their early 20s have been arrested and are being detained at Galway's Mill Street Garda Station under the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 (as amended).

Gardai say the seized drugs have an estimated street value of €50,000. Joint investigations by Revenue and An Garda Síochána are continuing, both domestically and internationally, with regard to this seizure of controlled drugs believed to be destined for the Galway “Rag Week” market.
