Parents unable to collect children after 'incident' at Tuam school
CONCERNED parents were unable to remove their children from a Tuam secondary school for a time on Friday following an incident at the school gate.
Some students at Archbishop McHale College were forced to jump a boundary wall to get into the school building after the gates were locked following the early morning incident.
Parents received a text message at noon Friday to alert them to a 'little incident at the school gate’ that morning and were reassured that their children were 'perfectly safe’.
However, those who arrived at the school to collect their children were unable to access the building and weren’t given any further information by the school.
One mother said she had tried to contact the principal by phone but had no success, and was told by a secretary at the school there was nothing to worry about.
Principal Eileen Delaney told The Tuam Herald that the school was operating as normal and declined to comment further, saying it was a matter for Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB).
Later on Friday afternoon, all students and staff left the school.
