Kearney elected new Galway GAA Chairman
IN WHAT proved the most closely contested election for many years, Kilbeacanty club man Pat Kearney held off the challenge of Oughterard’s Kevin Clancy to be elected the new Galway GAA Chairman at Monday night’s Annual Convention.
All 80 Galway clubs were represented at the Salthill Hotel and a bumper 96 per cent turnout meant a total of 253 votes were up for grabs between county committee, officers and delegates.
A tight finish was predicted and that’s exactly how it played out as current Hurling Committee Secretary Kearney shaded the vote, 127 votes to 126, to succeed outgoing Chairman Noel Treacy (Pádraig Pearses), who completed his fifth and final year in the post.
