Back to the future for Ray Lynam
MODESTY must be a middle name for Ray Lynam as he just shrugs his shoulders when it is mentioned that he and the original Hillbillies were regarded by fans, critics and even cynics, as the best Country act to emerge from Ireland in the 1970s.
Perfectionist is what Ray and the band members are because even though they got together to re-record some of their most popular songs during the summer on a new album titled Then and Now, initially for their recent tour, keyboards player John Ryan said at their Galway gig that as they needed to “do more work” on a few of the tracks the release was postponed until last week. Less discerning singers and musicians would not have the same attention to detail that Ray and the Hillbillies have.
According to Ray, it’s thanks to the fans who requested they re-record some of the old songs that they are available again, along with a few new ones.
