Final places up for grabs
FOLLOWING the news that Kevin Walsh and Micheál Donoghue have been unanimously ratified for new three-year terms as Galway’s senior football and hurling managers, respectively, the weekend’s club action will be the primary focus for the local GAA fraternity as a serious juncture has been reached with senior and intermediate semi-finals down for decision in both codes over the coming two weekends.
Wins for Salthill-Knocknacarra and Mountbellew-Moylough on Sunday means we have the exact same semi-final line-up in the Senior Football Championship as 12 months ago.
There are new pairings this time around, however, as champions Corofin take on Mountbellew-Moylough in a repeat of last year’s final, while 2012 winners Salthill-Knocknacarra meet a Cortoon Shamrocks side that is gunning for only their second-ever final appearance after reaching Galway club football’s showpiece day in 2008.
Both matches are fixed for on Sunday, October 9.
