Kerry goal rush denies Galway
DESPITE falling short of the standards they intended to hit in Sunday’s All-Ireland final, a seven-point defeat still amounted to rough justice for the Galway minor footballers as they left Croke Park.
Kerry came in with no shortage of hype or fanfare and while they justified their favouritism, with goals from Diarmuid O’Connor, David Shaw and David Clifford decisive, it wasn’t until the final ten minutes that their three in-a-row of titles was confirmed after a spirited Galway resurgence.
Speaking afterwards, manager Steven Joyce admitted that a poor opening half from his Galway side, in which they scored just twice and conceded two of those goals, was a major contributory factor towards the result.
“Obviously, we’ve very disappointed,” said Joyce.
