Blade point seals title for Corofin in dramatic finale

CHELSEY Blade was the match-winner for Corofin in Saturday’s County Minor A Championship final, her 58th minute point securing a win over Kilkerrin-Clonberne following a nail-biting conclusion in Caltra.
The A Cup and A Shield finals were held as part of the Mairéad Meehan Memorial Tournament, and it was very fitting indeed that both were exciting games of football, Claregalway defeating Dunmore MacHales 2-16 to 2-10 in the Shield decider.
Mairéad Meehan won seven All-Ireland titles in camogie with her secondary school HRC Mountbellew, her club Pádraig Pearses and with Galway county teams. Her exploits on the sporting fields were just as noteworthy as those of her six brothers, and it was Michael Meehan who presented the cup to a beaming Corofin captain Rachel Cummins.
