While there are always tears for first days at school, mum and dad, Louise and Sean, will be shedding tears of joy to see Liam sit in class with the rest of his new school pals.

The five-year-old who loves Mickey Mouse, music and tech-gadgets had a leg amputation as a baby and along with other medical issues, suffers from a severe lung complication.

But after an emotional campaign to have Liam relocated from Crumlin Hospital to Galway and finally home to Clonberne, his condition continues to improve significantly proving as Louise says 'there's no place like home.'

Initially medics didn't think Liam would survive but his family never lost their faith in him and now he doesn't need his ventilator for most of the day. While he still requires 24-hour care - his development and progress have been remarkable.

'I'm apprehensive but this is what we've wanted for Liam,' says Louise, ahead of the big day at Clonberne NS.
