Kings of Connacht
KEVIN Walsh hailed his Galway side as 'exceptional’ in the wake of their emphatic 11-point win over Roscommon in Sunday’s Connacht Senior Football Championship final replay.
The Tribesmen blitzed Roscommon with a sparkling first half display in Castlebar. They were gritty and organised in defence, fluid and pacy in their movement in attack, while their finishing was lethal. Galway built an unassailable lead on the back of goals from Danny Cummins and Gary Sice, leaving Roscommon a well-beaten side inside the opening half-hour.
They grabbed the initiative and never relinquished it, something that pleased Walsh greatly when speaking afterwards, as did the fact that they took out two Division 1 sides in reclaiming the JJ Nestor Cup after an eight-year wait.
