Three small towns have big ideas

HEADFORD, Athenry and Ballygar are to the fore in promoting Galway's bid to be European Capital of Culture in 2020.

They have been chosen to host a new pilot programme of events under the heading, Small Towns, Big Ideas.

The first event, The Nesting Lark in Headford, runs from May 26 to 29. Athenry's pilot project, The Edible Landscape/Pot Luck, began last month with a meeting and will culminate on June 16.

Ballygar's project is Sugan, based on the traditional straw rope.
