Defeat costs Galway the title
A DISAPPOINTING final round defeat to Sligo ended Galway’s hopes of winning the Connacht Minor Football League at Tuam Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim and Galway all remained in contention with one match to go. The permutations were many but Steven Joyce’s team remained masters of their own destiny and knew a win would see them crowned champions. A draw would almost certainly have been enough, too, given their massive advantage over the other teams in points difference.
Apart from a decent start though, Galway failed to fire and Sligo’s position was never threatened from the moment Conan Herron finished the game’s only goal on 27 minutes
