Young sports stars say it's cool not to drink
AT a time when many thought that the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association (PTAA) had all but disappeared among younger people, a number of young Galway sports stars are taking part in a campaign urging teenagers to consider joining The Pioneers.
A new poster campaign by the PTAA in this county features football star Shane Walsh from Clonberne, ladies football star Martha Connolly from Renmore and former Galway hurling star, TV analyst and school principal in Athenry, Cathal Moore, brother of current Galway player Fergal. They feature on the posters suggesting to youngsters that life can be better without alcohol.
Shane Walsh has one of the strongest messages of all for people who might think that getting drunk is cool.
“You don’t need alcohol to enjoy a night out with friends, it’s much better without it. Don’t let others make you drink. Life can be better without alcohol.
