Tyrone withstand late Galway fightback
By Cian O'Connell
GUTSY until the bitter end the unfortunate reality was that Galway still suffered an Allianz Football League Division 2 defeat to promotion favourites Tyrone at Pearse Stadium on Sunday.
An interesting game played in dreadful weather conditions featured another plucky performance from Galway, who summoned a brave rally in the closing stages.
Down to 14 men following the controversial decision to dismiss Paul Conroy, Galway trailed by eight points with three minutes of normal time remaining.
Kevin Walsh’s team, though, launched a daring late revival mission which included the latest goal in Damien Comer’s burgeoning collection. Subsequent points from substitute Peter Cooke (45), Eamon Brannigan, and another from replacement Shane Walsh (free) had Galway only two behind, but Tyrone held out to secure victory.
