Tuam candidate to fly new party flag in Galway East
GALWAY East will see a new face on the hustings this general election as a young Tuam man has decided to dip his toe in the political waters to give, he says, the people of Galway East “an alternative to the established parties which have let them down so badly”.
Aengus Melia (37) from Marley, Tuam is the son of Austin and Nancy Melia and works for JFC Plastics. He became active in public issues as a member of the Tuam Against Water Charges and Water Meters Group and has also been involved in a number of anti-austerity initiatives.
He will be joining at least 12 other hopefuls running under the Direct Democracy Ireland – a National Citizens’ Movement (DDI-NCM) banner.
