Charity lambasted at County Hall for suggesting councillors should be better educated
THERE has been a strong reaction by Galway County Councillors to a suggestion from one of their number that councillors should be better educated before they are allowed to stand for election.
Cllr James Charity’s suggestion was that the recent flooding and poor planning “highlights the need to ensure that politicians have minimum levels of qualifications and competency in order to perform the job”.
He also called for party affiliation and nepotism to be removed from our political culture to ensure we have local councillors and national TDs who are trained and skilled.
